The woke CEO of a San Francisco-based tech company may have just committed a major violation of federal law, not to mention a blatantly unconstitutional act.
Twilio boss Jeff Lawson announced plans to trim about 11 percent of the communication company’s workforce after admitting in a memo this week that the company did not grow as fast as expected as the nation pulled out of the throes of COVID-related shutdowns, especially in California.
Twilio joins the ranks of other tech companies that have suffered a similar fate. But the difference is, Lawson’s layoffs appear to be aimed mostly at whites based on a memo he sent to staffers.
“Twilio has grown at an astonishing rate over the past couple years. It was too fast, and without enough focus on our most important company priorities. I take responsibility for those decisions, as well as the difficult decision to do this layoff,” he wrote, as reported by Zero Hedge.
“Layoffs like this can have a more pronounced impact on marginalized communities,” Lawson wrote in the memo. “So we were particularly focused on ensuring our layoffs – while a business necessity today – were carried out through an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression lens.”
First of all, there is no evidence that layoffs “can have a more pronounced impact on marginalized communities” – which is leftist speak for minority communities. Anyone who loses a job will likely suffer some economic hardship and fallout, though in today’s labor market, it won’t be hard for anyone looking to find another job.
For another, let’s be clear that in California, whites now fall into the category of “minority” so, under the woke logic of the left, their communities are now “marginalized.” In fact, according to the most recent demographic statistics, Latinos make up 39 percent of the California population versus 35 percent of whites and 15 percent of Asian descent. The Public Policy Institute of California says ‘no race or ethnic group’ constitutes a majority, but that is an obvious lie.
Thirdly, the terms “anti-racist” and “anti-oppression” are meaningless; either persons are racists and oppressors…or they’re not. There is no such thing as an “anti-racist,” in other words. Again, that’s just woke-speak that allows the lunatic left to be racists against white people (who are considered to be racists simply because of skin color — itself blatantly racist).
Finally, our original point was, any labor action conducted with an eye toward race and ethnicity is in and of itself a racist act and therefore not only unconstitutional but a violation of civil rights statutes that have been on the books for decades. That memo Lawson, a company founder, sent to employees ahead of about 800 layoffs is likely going to be “Exhibit A” in a massive lawsuit against the multibillion-dollar company. He would have been better off, and well within his rights, to lay off employees who weren’t senior, were not pulling their own weight, or were employed in positions the company no longer needs — regardless of skin color.
Naturally, the left-wing ‘mainstream’ media is defending Lawson (the same media that would have roasted Donald Trump or any conservative for making a similar statement). Fortune, for instance, used only positive responses from employees for its story on the layoffs.
“No one at Twilio has made any mention of it,” one source told the outlet.
“Being an anti-racist company is part of our core values,” said another (as well as the ‘core value’ of the vast majority of Americans, from all political spectrums).
The quoted employees also blew off claims of “race-based” job cuts despite the fact that Lawson specifically alluded to them in his memo.
“I’m sure right-wingers think this means firing only white people,” one of the employees told Fortune, noting that it appeared the laid-off employees were “an equal mix” of women, men, and underrepresented minorities.
Leftists do not live in the same world the rest of us do. They will justify any behavior, no matter how outrageous, if it satisfies their political and cultural objectives.
